Every now and again, our office will receive a call from a client wanting to know when they should expect to get their bail bonds money back.
They’ll either tell us the case is over, it was dismissed, charges were never filed or the matter has been otherwise settled. When will I get a refund?
We then need to re-explain that bail bonds fees are not refunded in part, or in full, no matter what happens in court. The money that is paid to an Alameda bondsman is considered to be earned in full at the time the defendant is released from jail. When you hire a bondsman the bondsman agrees, for a fee, to take on liability that is equal to the defendant’s bail amount.
The company the bondsman works for also agrees to carry this liability throughout the duration of the defendant’s case. This is why California bail bonds agents charge a fee for their services.
