FAQ: How is bail set?
In Alameda County and throughout California, each county has its own “bail schedule,” which is determined by judges on an annual basis. The main consideration is public safety. The judge will consider if the defendant is a danger to others. Defendants considered a flight risk will be set a higher bail amount to ensure that they return to court. Repeat offenders will also be set a high bail.
