Members of the Berkely Police Department said they had a critical problem last weekend when their radios started to malfunction.
An communication blackout is never a good thing, they said, and it’s even worse when something like that happens when they’re trying to catch a criminal.
It all started when police were called to investigate a shooting. But when they got the the area, radio transmissions started to become garbled. Officers said the problem wasn’t just in the area of the crime- the blackouts were happening all over the city.
Union officials are also scratching their heads, and have started to question whether this was a random incident or if it was intentional.
Regardless as to the cause, the issue seems to be resolved.
The Berkey PD said they’ll continue to investigate the matter and are working to get to the bottom of it. They’ve even gone so far as to get the device manufacturer involved so it doesn’t happen again.
If it is determined that the cause was criminal, officers say the culprits will be arrested, handcuffed and taken straight to the Santa Rita Jail.
