Officers in the Berkeley Police Department were busy in the days leading up to the 4th of July holiday and were called out to investigate all sorts of incidents.
On Friday June 20th, most of the calls that came in were related to theft. One suspect is believed to have burglarized a commercial building, while a handful of others stole items from homes, apartments and cars.
Property crimes have been on the rise all throughout California, according to a Berkeley PD spokesperson, and local neighborhoods are certainly not the exception to the rule.
The trend of investing commercial and residential theft crimes continued throughout the week. Although most of the stolen goods from each incident totaled less than $950, at least two calls involved items worth much more.
Officers say two cars were also stolen during that week. The first involved the taking of a vehicle on Sixth Street and the second related to someone stealing a truck that had been parked near California and Russell Streets.
Anyone who has information about any of these crimes is asked to call the Berkeley Police tip line. Once the suspects are captured, they’ll be booked into the Santa Rita Jail where they will be held pending bail bonds.
