Members of the Berkeley Police Department have confirmed they are looking for a suspect who fired early morning shots on Father’s Day.
The incident took place near the frat row portion of the local college campus. Officers said they received notification of the shooting at about 12:30 a.m. Bullet casings have been recovered from nearby buildings. It is not believed that anyone was hurt. An investigator said they did not find signs of blood at the scene.
Witnesses say the altercation may have involved a pedestrian and people in a vehicle.
Berkeley Police said they had been made aware that there was a disturbance in this area about 40 minutes before the shooting took place. They arrived and saw a house party that had spilled into the street. Some of the partygoers were fighting. Officers broke up the crowd and sent everyone on their way.
They returned to the area after being notified that shots had been fired. They described the scene as being chaotic. Cars, residents and party attendees were disbursing in all directions.
They do not believe the incident is gang related but the investigation is still underway. One local resident reportedly took to Twitter after she heard the gun go off. That individual said they could no longer take this type of violence in the neighborhood.
The reason for the shooting is still being investigated. Suspects have not yet been named. Anyone who believes they might have information that could lead to the capture and prosecution of those involved are asked to contact the Berkeley Police Department.
