Representatives from the Hayward Police Department said they arrested defendant Roshcelle Morgan earlier this week after court testimony uncovered she had an outstanding warrant out for her arrest.
Morgan has since been booked into the Santa Rita Jail where she is being held in lieu of $25,036 bail. It is unclear whether a friend or family member has reached out to a Hayward bondsman in order to arrange a bond. If they do decided to move forward the cost to purchase a bond will be 10%, or in this case, approximately $2,500. That fee would be earned by the company in full at the time the defendant is released from custody.
Authorities say Morgan was called to testify in a case against Cort Holbrook after Holbrook reportedly murdered her boyfriend. Attorneys for the defendant produced evidence of her warrant in hopes of discrediting her testimony.
Holbrook was arrested in 2011 after a violent road rage incident resulted in the stabbing death of Ricky Zeismer. The defendant continues to be held at the Santa Rita Jail in lieu of $3 million bail. His cost to hire a local bondsman would be $300,000. The cosigner would also be required to post collateral in order to secure the bond. The collateral would be returned to whomever posted it at the end of the case as long as Holbrook makes all of his required court appearances. If the defendant decided to flee from justice the collateral would be considered forfeited.
Additional information on either crime was not immediately available. Authorities have not said what Morgan’s warrant was for.
