Father’s Day week celebrations for one local family have taken a turn for the worse.
San Jose Police said a 39 year-old man was taken into custody after his son stumbled across is fireworks stash. Not only did the child get into the explosives, they said, he managed to set one off.
The explosion caused severe damage to the youngsters hand and he needed to be rushed to the hospital. Doctors have said the injuries weren’t life threatening, but his hand will be permanently disfigured.
A search of the property led officers to find more than 14 pounds of fireworks inside the premises. Not only are these types of devices illegal, they pose a really big safety hazard to anyone who comes into contact with them.
It’s one thing if you have a pyrotechnics permit, but without one, anyone who is found to be in possession of fireworks can be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.
Suffice to say, dad was cuffed and taken to the Santa Rita Jail where he was charged with two separate crimes including felony child endangerment. Since his name hasn’t been released in an effort to protect the privacy of his son, it’s hard to determine if he’s been released on bail bonds.
