An Oakland man who is accused of killing his wife has been booked into the Alameda County Jail on murder charges. Authorities say he told police his wife died after falling down some stairs, but investigators say he was telling a tall tale.
The 53 year-old man is believed to have attacked his wife of 12 years at their home. Jail officials say he is currently being detained without bail bonds, which means he is unable to hire an Alameda County bondsman to help get him released from custody.
Oakland Police officers felt the death was suspicious, they said, and once the autopsy was complete they changed the woman’s cause of death to homicide. Her injuries just weren’t consistent with what would have happened during a fall.
The defendant’s attorney dismisses those claims, saying that law enforcement has it all wrong. He has vowed to fight the matter in court until his client’s charges are dismissed.
