A suspected Fremont murderer has been booked into the Santa Rita Jail. The defendant, 29 year-old Megan O’Connel is accused of beating her elderly father to death. The motive for the crime has not yet been released.
Authorities say they responded to a call on Thursday night from a concerned neighbor. The caller indicated there was a loud disturbance taking place at the victim’s home on Argyle Road. O’Connel’s father was found face down on the kitchen floor. He was bleeding from his head and it was discovered he suffered multiple blunt force traumas. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead the following morning.
Fremont Police say the man had previously taken out a restraining order against his daughter. She violated that order at the time she arrived to the home. Investigators found her locked in a bathroom on the first floor of the residence. A short struggle ensued but they were able to take her into custody without further incident.
O’Connel is reportedly being detained without bail. She is expected to be arraigned later this week. If the no-bail hold is lifted that amount will likely be set in excess of $1 million, meaning the cost for her to hire a local bondsman would be in excess of $100,000. The matter is ongoing.
